Office of the Attorney General launches its first Prosecution Guidelines at its first Annual Lawyers Conference in Paro

The Office of the Attorney General held its first Annual Lawyers Conference in Paro on June 16, 2010. About 50 lawyers from government agencies and dzongkhags participated in the conference. Among the many important agenda items and issues for the conference, the launch of the first Prosecution Guidelines 2010 was one of the most important one.

Launching the Guidelines, the newly appointed Attorney General, Mr. Phuntsho Wangdi stated that the assistance provided by UNDP for its formulation has been strategic to the Office of the Attorney General's (OAG)  institutional and capacity development, which will further support the strengthening of democratic values and rule of law in the country.

In addition to the capacity development of the lawyers, UNDP also supported the OAG in streamlining the legal process of prosecuting cases of corruption in the delivery of public service in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Royal Civil Service Commission. As a result, a common legal process has been established among the three agencies on prosecuting the cases of corruption in public service.
