Annual Report 2007-08 UNDP BhutanThe past year has seen great changes in Bhutan with the country’s road map for democratization, initiated by the Fourth King in 1981, culminating in general elections and the transition to a Democratic Constitutional Monarchy. The country’s first democratic elections were conducted smoothly and effectively with voter turnout reaching 79% in the national assembly elections. The elected members reflect a broad and inclusive representation of society in terms of age, gender and other backgrounds. |
