News ArchivesTowards an Energy Plus Approach for the Poor[03-02-2012] The newly launched United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) report based on case studies in Asia and the Pacific, calls for a set of "energy plus" services. The report titled 'Towards an Energy plus Approach for the Poor' talks about access to modern energy required for heating, cooking and electricity for the people from the lower income group. UNDP report confirms that there can be no development without energy, and that poverty cannot be addressed sustainably without paying due attention to energy services. The report adds that the poor need energy to get out of poverty, but energy alone is not enough. [16-09-2011] New York, 14 September 2011 -The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today launched a guidebook aimed at helping decision makers in developing countries to better take advantage of the billions pledged to address climate change. "Blending Climate Finance through National Climate Funds" is based on UNDP's experience in setting up, managing and advising 750 funds and providing services for over US$5 billion in contributions pooled from multiple donors.
