National Workshop on Judicial Education

[18-04-2009] With a view to establishing the first legal institute, the Royal Court of Justice, in Bhutan conducted a national workshop on Judicial Education from 17 to 19 April 2009 in Thimphu. Participants to the workshop included the judges of the High Court, District Courts, and subdistrict courts, in addition to legal officers from the mainline ministries, including representatives from the Office of Attorney General of Bhutan and Police officials. Enhanced Integrated Framework(EIF) and Trade Facilitation Meeting

[02-04-2009] A meeting focusing on trade promotion as a means to combat poverty was held in Paro 4-6 March. The meeting was well attended by representatives of all relevant government ministries, agencies, the private sector and civil society. The meeting revolved around the current trade and industry situation in Bhutan, and the potential of applying for accession to the „Enhanced Integrated Framework., established to enable least developed countries to integrate in the global economy and benefit from opportunities generated by the multilateral trading system. Regional Workshop on GLOF Risk Reduction in the Himalayas

[09-01-2009] People in the Himalayan belt that encompasses parts of India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan face similar kinds of disasters, the socio-economic impact is more or less similar in nature and hence similar risk mitigation strategies need to be adopted to counter the impact of the same. Bhutanese Hand-Woven Shawl Receives UNESCO Award of Excellence

[14-12-2008] A range of Bhutanese crafts ranging from brass, paper and textile products were in September 2008 judged by an international panel of experts of the South Asia UNESCO Award of Excellence for Handicrafts (AWARD). Out of a total of 13 products, one of the Bhutanese products received the AWARD. This was a cotton shawl, dyed in natural dyes, made by Ms. Karma Yanchen.
