UNVs working in ICT

Currently:

Under a UNV capacity building project supported by the Government of Japan, UNV in Bhutan has the following UNVs currently serving in the ICT sector:

  • ICT for Development: one UNV, from Australia, is supporting the Ministry of Information & Communications' Department of Information Technology in its policy and legislation work. Also supports UNDP in ICT programmining and policy work.
  • Training in IT: one UNV, from UK, is based at Sherubtse College, and not only lectures students, but is also assisting the IT section of the college develop its own course, ready for when degrees are managed by the newly created 'Royal University of Bhutan' .
  • Systems Development : one UNV, from India, is working on new systems for the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC), and for the Road Safety and Traffic Authority (RSTA).

Shortly to be recruited (and the candidate is already identified) is a UNV to assist the Royal Government make the script of the national language Dzongkha functional under Linux open-source software

 

Other UNVs currently serving in this sector, through different funding sources, are as follows:

  • E-Business: one UNV E-business programme adviser, from the Philippines, is working under a UNDP-supported project designed to help the Ministry of Trade and Industry explore and develop the potential for E-Business
  • E-Post: one UNV, from Finland, and funded through the support of the Government of Finland, is working with Bhutan Post to explore and develop potential for using internet for speedier mail services.

 

Recently completed UNV assignments include the following:

Financial Management Training

  • RIM (Royal Institute of Management, Thimphu) - one UNV, from Australia, developed a training package in computerised financial management

Training in IT

  • NIE (National Institute of Education), Paro - one UNV from Japan - developing and implementing a training course in IT for trainees teachers
  • Youth Centre, Motithang - one UNV from France , developed a training manual for young people in basic computing
  • Division of Information Technology (DIT), Thimphu, one UNV from Japan

Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

  • NAGISC (National Agency for Geographic Information Systems Coordination) - one UNV from USA 

Database Development

  • MTI (Ministry of Trade and Industry) - one UNV from Bulgaria  

Systems Engineering and Development

  • FCB (Food Corporation of Bhutan, Phuntsholing)  -  Two UNVs, one from UK, and one from Australia

Building up Data-base, Information Systems, LAN/WAN and Web Design

  • ICS-MoA (Information and Communication Services, Ministry of Agriculture) - two UNVs from Philippines 
  • MoF (Ministry of Finance) - one UNV from Japan
