United Nations Volunteers (Bhutan)

Filling in the yellow PHS Form

Tips

  • Read the instruction sheet carefully, and follow the instructions.
  • Use black or dark blue pen.
  • Avoid using abbreviations which may not be understood internationally (e.g. RCSC, RGoB, etc.).
  • Make sure to give full contact details, easy to read - and to inform us if any change in your contact details later on.
  • When filling in about your work experience:
        • Start with your current (or most recent) work, and then go backwards in time
        • Under activities, state what YOU did, not what your organisation was doing
  • Availability: please note that your application will be rejected if you give your availability as more than three months after date of signature. Therefore, if you cannot accept a post soon, then please postpone signature and submission of your PHS form until you are ready to accept a post.
  • Highlight any special skills you have within your skill area - there are normally few vacancies for general teachers, engineers, etc. (as most countries have too many people with these skills) - but if e.g. you have experience in tunnelling, then state your experience as tunnelling engineer; similarly if you are a teacher of the deaf, etc.
  • Since the Volunteer Living Allowances depend on the number of dependents you have (e.g. spouse, children), please always fill in the names of your spouse and/pr dependent children, even if you think it is unlikely that they would accompany you if you were offered a UNV post. Also, if you can, please attach copies of your marriage certificate and your children's birth certificates - however, if you don't have these currently available, you may send the PHS form without these certificates (but you will be asked later to send them, if you are put on the roster). Please also note that any certificates in a language other than Dzongkha must have an accompanied translation in English.
  • Do not be disappointed if you receive a rejection letter - approximately only 10% of applications result in acceptance onto the UNV roster.
  • Remember to sign at the bottom of the final page of the PHS - you would be surprised how many people forget to do this!
  • You may send your PHS directly (see address to UNV in Cyprus, given in the instruction sheet) – or you may ask us to forward your PHS. If you send your PHS through our office, we can quickly check that everything is in order, and if you bring with you certificate originals, we can verify the photocopies on your behalf. We can also verify any translations of certificates.
  • Please do not ask us if we have received news as to whether you have been accepted on the roster! You will be informed directly by UNV in Cyprus before they inform us!  Allow three months for processing.  If you have not heard any response after 6 months, then please contact us at UNV Bhutan, and we can follow up for you.
